School Construction Goals
While true learning comes from the dedicated professionals that we entrust our children to every day, the environment has a major effect on it as well. I am proud that our students are learning in some of the best and most modern educational facilities in the State of Florida. By the end of summer more than 50% of our facilities will be less than ten years old.
The latest addition, Vernon High School will be one of the most modern and up to date facilities in Florida. Prior to the 1994 the most modern k-12 facility was more than 40 years old. The addition of a new Vernon Middle School also provide great relief on the serious student capacity problems at Vernon Elementary and Vernon High School. Fortunately for Washington County residents, the bulk of the cost for all of the new facilities was paid by the state.
Your leadership team with Superintendants and School Board members, made the difference by lobbying hard in Tallahassee on your behalf. We still have a little ways to go. Current plans call for the renovation and remodeling of Vernon Elementary School and Kate Smith Elementary School in the immediate future.
Immediate plans also include the possibility of a new intermediate learning center to be constructed on the current Chipley High/Roulhac Middle School property. Planning for the future is one of the most important responsibilities of a board.
Other Construction priorities for the district include:
- WHTC Driving Range
- New Bus maintenance facilities for Vernon and Chipley
- New Cafeteria for KMS
- Alternative Education facilities for Chipley and Vernon
- New ESE Classrooms for VES and KMS
- WHTC – New Classrooms
- Additional classroom space at CHS
- Completion of RMS 5th grade wing
