Highlighting Washington County and the wonderful rural life-style of the area, Rep. Don Brown, again, hosted Don Brown’s Duck Hunt. The annual event begins with a reception for the dozens of sponsors and a scrumptious dinner bar-b-que dinner. For the first time, an art auction followed dinner with those in attendance bidding on stunning artwork with a duck hunt theme. Continuing the next morning with a hardy hunt breakfast, the hunt merges two of the finest hunting experiences-- duck and quail-- into a single day of exhilarating pursuit as hunters from across the state enjoy the pristine ponds and fields of the county. The hunters, guides and dogs hunt ducks at El Ranchero, near Chipley. The hunt resumes at the Hard Labor Creek Plantation for an afternoon of quail hunting and skeet shooting.
At the Duck Hunt dinner Friday evening, Rep. Don Brown presented Paul Parker, Director of the Washington-Holmes Technical Center with a check for the Foundation Scholarship program totaling an estimated $5000. Proceeds from Don Brown’s Duck Hunt and the auction benefit the Washington-Holmes Technical Center Foundation Scholarship fund. This program assists students ineligible for other forms of assistance and allows them to further their educational efforts in the twenty-six different vocational programs offered at WHTC. Rep. Brown noted, “The Washington-Holmes Technical Center is a great place to build a solid foundation for a successful career. The skills and trades learned will assure not only the students economic future, but Florida’s economic future as well.”
Paul Parker, Director of the Washington-Holmes Technical Center, offered Rep. Brown sincere thanks for his continuing efforts to raise funds for student scholarships. Parker said, “ Rep. Brown has been a staunch champion for technical education across the state and he has consistently supported WHTC and the Foundation.” Jerry Tyre, Washington County District Superintendent of Schools praised Rep. Brown's commitment to the Washington-Holmes Technical Center and to the educational needs of Washington County. Tyre noted Rep. Brown tirelessly advocates for Washington County and her school system. Similarly, Holmes County School Board member, Joey Fisanick, stated “Rep. Brown’s devotion to his district enables local leaders to meet so many of area students’ needs.”
